The Singapore Zoo is on a large area of nature reserves in the middle of the bustling city of Singapore. The Zoo and Night Safari are on the edge of the Seletar Reservior.
The zoo was very nice. Of course it was very clean and well put together, like everything in Singapore. In a way, it was just like any other Zoo. There were monkeys, cheetahs, elephants, all the usual stuff. However the exhibits were very unique. there were a lot of 'open exhibits'; the monkeys were scurrying around on vines over our heads, the cheetahs were separate from us by only a moat. It was very easy to see all of the animals and a lot of them were surprisingly active.
Here is an example of an 'open exhibit'. This was above a walkway through the zoo.
Some monkeys chilling.
Rhinos on the move!
Zebras, they were so close!
Giraffe feeding time.
My favorite part of the zoo was the 'fragile forrest'. Inside of a Greenhouse type building there were butterflies, bats, and birds flying freely, as well as lemurs just walking around!
This lemur was just hanging out up on this viewing platform.
Bats eating fruit about 4 feet away from me.
Ring-tailed lemurs strutting about.
A mouse-rat! So cute!
The Night Safari was up next! I don't have any pictures from the night safari because flash photography is discouraged and my non-flash pictures turned out pretty terribly. Nevertheless, the night safari was an amazing experience! Many of the animals were very, very active. Additionally, there were lots of Southeast Asian deer, cattle, birds, and more! We went on a tram ride through the safari, and then went on a walk through some of the trails. My favorite animals were the 'fishing cats'. I'm sure that is not there actual scientific name (actually, its not the scientific name, obviously, but I don't know what is), but they were really cute! They were little leopard-like cats that were looking for fish in the river. I didn't see them catch anything, but they were adorable nonetheless. I hope I get to go to more Night Safari's in the future. It was really so different from the zoo, and it was great to see the animals so active.
